Place Value & Decimals

Whew! Where did the month of October go?! We've been very busy in 5th grade, especially in math! We've been studying place value for the past few weeks & learning all about decimals up to the thousandths place. Here are some of the activities we've done in math stations to practice our skills!

We started our unit by practicing place value by playing Yahtzee! The students worked to build the largest numbers possible, while still fulfilling specific tasks. For example, they might have to build a six digit number with a 2 in the hundreds place. This was a ton of fun & we loved playing Yahtzee!

Next, we did a place value scavenger hunt! Students had to move around the room to find numbers that fulfilled specific qualities.

Once we moved in to decimals, we worked in pairs around the room to order decimals from least to greatest!

Unit Test is on Thursday 11/3! Make sure you practice at home using IXL or Prodigy!

Vascular vs. NonVascular Plants

Last week, we completed our first science experiment of the year! Students studied the differences between vascular & non-vascular plants, then observed this in real life through our experiment! Can you tell which sample is vascular & which is non-vascular?
